Edwards Spring News

May 09, 2019

2019 marks a true milestone in the history of Edwards as we are celebrating 100 years of vacuum innovation. A century ago, F.D. Edwards first started importing vacuum equipment from his office in South London. Since then, our people and technologies have enabled countless innovations – from TVs to space exploration to phones that are as powerful as computers and scientific advances that improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world.

EDS Dry Screw Pumps

Edwards proudly announces the launch of its new EDS dry screw pump. The pump is specifically designed for challenging conditions and demanding applications, featuring our well-known, patented tapered variable pitch dry screws. The EDS range is suitable for a wide range of applications within the industrial and chemical market, incl. heat treatment, glass coating, solar

cell manufacturing, freeze drying, plastic extrusion and large chamber evacuation in R&D applications.

As a truly industrial pump, the EDS range has second-to-none contaminant handling capabilities. It is designed for the harshest industrial and chemical conditions, with a high tolerance for particulates. The extra performance enables higher pumping speeds and quicker pump down times – ready to meet modern day technology. Designed for a changing global market, the EDS pumps can easily be configured for hazardous area installations and are certified for global explosion standards.

Water- or air-blast cooled, the pump can be tailored to the individual application. In addition to the stand-alone pump, we also offer pump-booster combinations as a plug and play option.

nEXT Turbomolecular pumps

Edwards is one of the leading manufacturers of both mechanical bearing and magnetically levitated turbomolecular pumps. In terms of mechanical bearing turbomolecular pumps we offer the nEXT range, designed for a broad range of Analytical, R&D Lab and Industrial applications, with pumping speeds from 47l/s to 400l/s.

nEXT turbomolecular pumps are built on decades of experience and are drawing from our tried and trusted EXT and STP ranges. nEXT pumps offer superior performance, reliability and end user serviceability, setting the benchmark for scientific turbomolecular pumps.
nEXT turbomolecular pumps are hybrid bearing pumps with a compound drag stage and integrated controllers. They all feature a permanent magnetic upper bearing, which eliminates hydrocarbons at the top of the rotor and an oil lubricated lower bearing for reliable high speed operation.
Optimised rotor design means nEXT pumps deliver on both speed and compression making them ideal for UHV applications. The on-board controller interfaces directly with our TIC and TAG controllers to provide low cost system integration. nEXT pumps also allow user serviceability through an easily changeable bearing cartridge for low cost of ownership.

User serviceability for turbo pumps

Empowering our customers to perform simple on-site service is a driver in our product development. On the EdwardsnEXT turbomolecular pumps we have achieved this goal on multiple fronts. As such, an oil lubrication cartridge exchange can typically be performed, where access allows, in less than 5 minutes whereas a full bearing replacement can be completed in around 10 minutes. Both service actions can be executed with a minimum of specialized tools. The combined process is quite simple and does not require any special training. You can easily learn by watching the video tutorials on thenEXT85 and alllarger nEXT models.

The
nEXT pumps also keep the user informed when service is due and what level of intervention is required. This is achieved through a simple flashing LED sequence on the pumps and by serial comms notification. Flexibility is key as these simple service operations can be performed either by the end user, on-site by an Edwards field service engineer, or the pump can be returned to an Edwards service centre. Using remote diagnostics, end users can determine when the next service interval is coming up which allows for a proactive approach, planning in preventative maintenance.

Residual Gas Analysers - The perfect balance of high end performance & accessibility

Edwards is proud to announce the release of a market leading range of RGA’s to enhance our product offer for UHV applications. With measurement of partial pressures as low as 1x10-15mbar, the ability to locally view partial pressure

for a specific species and full data logging capability, our new RGA’s are the ideal tool to ensure cleanliness of your systems.

With our range of RGA’s you are guaranteed:
• Total pressure management
• Local partial pressure display in Pa, mbar or Torr
• Protection of Ion Source and Electron Multiplier
